  • Welcome to DoveCard

DoveCard is a mobile business tool meant to connect partners and professionals over teleconferences, video calls, or meetings at social distance whether face-to-face or using Bluetooth® technology. Utilize your choice of scanning a QR code, entering a numeric code, or using a meeting ID code to exchange your BizCards one-on-one or in an exchange group of up to 500 people.

The DoveCard App was conceived and built to easily facilitate both the growing shift toward remote working and the societal need for social distance. Likewise, it was built to operate both as a standalone tool and along with your favorite business communication apps, including Zoom, Skype, Google Meet, Microsoft Teams, LinkedIn, and others.

With each new BizCard you add to your collection, the exchange time and date are automatically recorded for easy reference. Additionally, you may add a personal note and rating to every new contact, features which may be used to quickly sort and search through your BizCard collection.

As your BizCard collection grows, DoveCard's chat feature allows you the option for an instant, one-to-one chat with your contacts -- along with the ability to send photos, videos, and voice messages.

DoveCard is available to download for free at the App Store or Google Play:

Any time you update your BizCard info, all your connections will automatically get a notification of the update.

    1.1 Create My BizCard

After your registration, you will immediately be brought to a screen in editing mode, with fields to fill in your personal information. As you complete these fields, this information will be added to your personal BizCard, which will be visible to any connections you choose to share it with.

Additionally, as you reach the bottom of the information fields, you will see boxes providing you the option to add photos of your paper business card and company logo to your DoveCard profile. This may be done by uploading existing photos from your device or by taking a photo with your device's camera.

    1.2 Edit My BizCard

The Edit icon located on your BizCard will bring you back to your profile in editing mode. Here, you can add, change, or update any information and photos to keep your digital business card fresh and relevant for all your professional connections. Any time you update your BizCard info, all your connections will automatically get a notification of the update.

    1.3 Share My BizCard

Easily send your BizCard to other people using your DoveCard App's Share feature. The Share option is found on your personal My BizCard profile to the left of the Edit icon.

Clicking this Share Icon will bring you to the My Code page, which displays your profile photo, job title, company as well as your personal numeric and QR codes. At the bottom of the screen are 2 buttons:

    • - Share my code: send your BizCard information using email, SMS, or your preferred 3rd-party messaging app
    • - Save to photos: save the image displayed on screen (including your scannable QR code) to your phone's Photo Album to send to your contacts

    2. BizCard Exchange

The BizCard Exchange page contains your choice of several options to exchange BizCards with one or several people. This includes the use of QR codes, numeric codes, or meeting ID codes, all of which are detailed below.

    A. The "Scan QR Code" Button

The Scan button at the top of the screen is used to scan any DoveCard QR code. When you scan a personal or group QR code, you will automatically exchange BizCards with the individual or be added to the existing exchange group that the QR code belongs to.

If you scan a code to join a BizCard exchange group, you will automatically exchange BizCards with all other group members.

Please note, exchange groups and their associated codes (QR, numeric, and meeting ID) expire after 48 hours. All current and expired groups will remain visible on the View Your Groups page.

    B. The Numeric and Meeting ID Code Bar

2.2.1 Using the Code Bar for Numeric Codes

The Code Bar is used to enter a 9-digit personal code or an existing group exchange code. After you input the 9-digit code, click "Add" to auto-exchange BizCards with the code's associated user or group members.

2.2.2 Using the Code Bar for Meeting ID Code

The Code Bar is also used for meeting ID exchange codes. To initiate the exchange, enter the last 6 characters of a meeting ID to join an existing exchange group

    * A meeting ID is the code generated by most video call and teleconference apps for online meetings. DoveCard's meeting ID group code allows you to use the last 6 characters of any such code (e.g., 222333) to create a BizCard exchange group.

    C. The "Create" Tab

The "Create New Group" tab is the easiest way to exchange BizCards with multiple users. This feature can be used with a meeting ID code from your teleconference or video calls or by creating your own custom group name (20-character limit).

After creating your new group, DoveCard will bring you to the exchange group's full profile. The information displayed here includes:

    • - Group name or meeting ID code
    • - A scannable QR code (and numeric code for custom groups)
    • - All group members
    • - Expiration time and date

By sharing the QR code and/or numeric code with your contacts, they can scan the QR code or enter the numeric code on the same "BizCard Exchange" page in their own DoveCard App. The QR code may be shown to contacts in person, by holding it in front of a video chat camera, or incorporated into a virtual backdrop. Likewise, the numeric code can also be shown or told to your contacts.

Please note, exchange groups and their associated codes (QR, numeric, and meeting ID) expire after 48 hours. All current and expired groups will remain visible on the View Your Groups page.

    D. View Your Groups

The "View Your Groups" button at the bottom of the page displays all the exchange groups you are a part of. This includes both groups you have joined and groups you created.

By clicking on a group, you can view all of its information. This information includes:

    • - Group name
    • - QR code and numeric or meeting ID code
    • - All group members
    • - Expiration time and date

Please note, exchange groups and their associated codes (QR, numeric, and meeting ID) expire after 48 hours. All current and expired groups will remain visible on the View Your Groups page.

    3. People Nearby (Bluetooth Exchange)

DoveCard uses your phone's Bluetooth technology to allow wireless and touchless BizCard exchange over short distances. To use the Bluetooth exchange, click the middle icon on the Navigation Bar to reach the "People Nearby" page.

    3.1 Activating Bluetooth Connectivity

If it is your first time using the People Nearby feature, you will first need to permit DoveCard to use your device's Bluetooth capability. To activate Bluetooth connectivity, navigate to Settings > DoveCard. In the menu underneath, find and toggle on the option "Bluetooth" under ALLOW DOVECARD TO ACCESS.

Make sure that these options are toggled on before returning to the DoveCard app to use the Bluetooth feature.

3.2 Searching for Nearby Users Using Bluetooth Technology

Once your Bluetooth connectivity is enabled, the People Nearby screen will automatically search for any other DoveCard users in your proximity who are also using the feature. Any users found will be displayed in the lower portion of the screen along with the option to select them and send a BizCard exchange request. The search will stop after 30 seconds, after which time you can click the "Search Again" button.

    4. BizCard Collection

The BizCard Collection page allows you to manage all the BizCards you have already added (BizCards tab) and all the pending BizCard exchange requests (Exchange Requests tab). If you currently have no connections, this page will display a "Send Invites" button to send invitations to people stored in your device's Contacts app.

    A. BizCards Tab

The BizCards tab displays all of the BizCards you have collected. By default, all BizCards appear by the date they were added. The page also contains several options on how to sort and manage your BizCards:

    • - The search bar allows you to search by name, company, or keywords from the notes you have added to a BizCard
    • - The filter icon allows you to sort your BizCard Collection by Date Added, Last Name, Importance, or Company Name, or filter by any Importance rating
    • - Use "Rate" to quickly give ratings to received cards
    • - Use "Manage" to select and delete BizCards from your collection
    • - Use the trash icon to view all your recently deleted BizCards for up to 1 week. Here, you can also choose to restore them or clear them permanently

    B. Exchange Requests Tab

The Exchange Requests tab displays pending BizCards that are still waiting for you to accept them. When you receive a new BizCard exchange request, it will be displayed here.

After accepting a BizCard, a menu will appear for you to customize that BizCard before it is stored in your BizCard Collection. These customization options include:

    • - Rate the importance of the BizCard: Your BizCard Collection can later be filtered by importance ratings
    • - Add any personal notes: These notes can also be used for keyword searches within your BizCard Collection

In addition to these customization options, the time and date of the BizCard exchange are automatically recorded for each new card.

    C. Send Invites

The "Send Invites" button allows you to send an invitation through your phone's SMS messages, email, or 3rd-party messaging apps, such as WhatsApp, Line, or Messenger.

This will open a menu that displays people you have recently chatted with, messaging apps you have recently used, and several other options below. When in this menu, you can select either a specific person to send an invitation to or an app to send your invitation.

These invitations contain a link to install DoveCard and automatically exchange BizCards with the sender. You can also choose to keep the standard invitation text or customize it before sending it.

    D. Export to Phone Contacts

With DoveCard's Export feature, you can move your connection's information from the DoveCard App into your phone's Contacts or Address Book. To begin selecting and exporting your BizCards, navigate to your BizCard Collection and select the Export button near the top left.

You will be brought to the Export BizCards screen, which displays a list of all your Connections. On the left of the screen is a column of circles that can be used to select individual BizCards for export. Alternatively, you can use the Select All option at the bottom of the screen to choose all BizCards.

Once you have made your selection, click the Export Selected button at the bottom right of the screen.

A new contact profile will be created in your Address Book/Contacts app for each BizCard you are exporting. A new contact listing will be created each time you export a BizCard, so there is no need to worry about overwriting or losing an existing contact already in your phone's address book.

    5. News Feed

The DoveCard News Feed page is your center for all the activity throughout the entire DoveCard community. It includes posts from both your connections and the public network. This means that you can choose the audience for anything you post, making it visible to either "Your Connections" or "Public".

Scrolling through the News Feed page, you can choose to like posts or reply to them. You can also click on a person's profile photo to access their BizCard and connect with them, meaning you will send them a BizCard exchange request. At the top right of a member's post, you can also choose to follow or unfollow them.

    5.1 Share a post

To create a new post, tap the text bar at the top of the News Feed page, or one of the camera icons at the top right to post an image or video.

If you choose to upload an image or video, DoveCard will prompt you to allow access to your device's camera or photo library.

Clicking the text bar will open the full menu for post creation. This includes choosing the audience (Public or Your Connections), adding images or a video to your post, and typing your message of up to 500 characters.

    6. Settings Menu

Part 2: Specific Tasks in DoveCard

    1. How QR Codes Work in DoveCard

DoveCard uses 2 types of QR codes:

    • 1)
A personal QR code that is linked to your individual BizCard. These QR codes are permanent and will not change
    • 2)
A group exchange QR code that allows a group of up to 500 people to trade BizCards automatically by scanning. These QR codes are temporary and will expire after 48 hours

DoveCard's QR codes may be used, displayed, and scanned in a large number of ways, including:

    • - during video conferences (such as Zoom, Skype, or Google Meets)
    • - on the backdrops of video lectures and keynote speeches
    • - in email signatures
    • - in social media posts
    • - being scanned in person

    2. Getting Started

When you first join DoveCard, there are several ways you might first download the app:

    • 1)
You download the app directly from the App Store or Google Play
    • 2)
You scan a QR code that originates from a member's personal code or a group exchange code
    • 3)
You receive an invite from a member either through your phone's SMS messages or 3rd party messaging apps, such as WhatsApp, Line, or Messenger

In this section, we'll walk you through each of these methods to get you up and running on DoveCard.

2.1 Installing DoveCard from the App Store or Google Play

    • 4)
Or, download DoveCard using the button beneath the phone number field to sign up without automatically receiving this person's BizCard

This process will happen the same way if you scan either a personal QR code or a group exchange QR code. If you scan the same code again once DoveCard is installed, the app will direct you to either the individual's personal BizCard or the code's associated BizCard exchange group. The app will automatically exchange cards for you.

If you are brought to a member's BizCard, you will be presented with a menu that allows you to give their BizCard a rating and add notes. These may be used to reference the BizCard in your collection at a later date.

    * On iPhones and the latest versions of Android, you can scan a QR code using the device's camera app. On earlier versions of Android phones, you must download a separate QR code scanner app.

2.3 Installing DoveCard from a Video Call QR Code

During a video call, DoveCard users may share their personal or group QR codes in order to exchange BizCards. This can be done by either holding the QR code up to the video camera or creating a custom backdrop.

If you scan a QR code* from DoveCard during a video call and do not have DoveCard on your device:

    • 1)
You will be automatically redirected to a webpage
    • 2)
This webpage contains (a) a field to enter your mobile phone number for registration and (b) a link to your device's app store (Apple or Google) to download DoveCard for free

To automatically receive the BizCard of the person whose QR Code you scanned, (a) enter your phone number on this page and (b) sign up with the same phone number in the app
    • 4)
Or, download DoveCard using the button beneath the phone number field to sign up without automatically receiving this person's BizCard

The app will automatically exchange cards for you.

If you are brought to a member's BizCard, you will be presented with a menu that allows you to give their BizCard a rating and add notes. These may be used to reference the BizCard in your collection at a later date.

2.4 Installing DoveCard from a Text Message Invitation

DoveCard includes a feature to invite your contacts using either your phone's own messaging function or another app's messaging function. If one of your contacts sends you an invitation using this feature, it will contain a clickable shortlink.

    3. Setting Up Your BizCard

Once you have downloaded DoveCard, open the app to find the sign-up screen. Here, you will be presented with two options to create your new DoveCard account and personal digital business card.

In order to sign up using a phone number, DoveCard requires that you enter your first name and verify your mobile phone number. When you enter your country code and mobile number, click "Send Code".

You will be sent an SMS text verification code and brought to a screen to enter this code. Enter this code along with your phone number and click "Confirm". If you do not receive a code or experience any other problems, you may request a new code with the "Send Code" button.

All required fields are marked by an asterisk (*).

3.2 Signing Up with a Google or Apple Account

You may also create a new DoveCard account by using your existing Apple ID or Google account.

Located at the top of the sign-up page, DoveCard displays a button reading "Continue with Apple" or "Continue with Google", depending on your phone's operating system. By selecting this option, DoveCard will use your existing account information to autofill the required fields and quickly get you started.

    4. Changing Your Registered Email Address*

If you change jobs or simply begin using a new email address, DoveCard provides the means to update your email address in the Edit Profile section or with the Email Verification function found in the Settings menu.

    • 1)
Click the Edit icon on the My BizCard page
    • 2)
Enter your new email address in the Company Email field
    • 3)
Click the Save icon at the top right

Contained on the page are detailed instructions on how to verify your newly registered email address and a "Submit" button to send the email.

By clicking "Submit", a verification email will be sent to the email address you registered with. This verification email contains a 6-character code that you can enter into the Code Bar. This verification code expires after 1 hour. You can also request a new code at any time.

Once you have successfully entered the code, you will once again have full access to the DoveCard Chat feature. Additionally, all your connections will receive an automatic notification of your new email address.

    * In previous versions of DoveCard, user account registration was linked to the registered email address. In newer versions, this has been replaced with mobile phone number registration.

    5. Inviting Your Contacts to DoveCard

DoveCard provides you with several options to invite your contacts both to join DoveCard and to exchange BizCards with you.

5.1 Send a Direct Invitation Through Text Message or Messaging App

This feature allows you to send an invitation to DoveCard either through your phone's SMS messages, email, or 3rd party messaging apps, such as WhatsApp, Line, or Messenger. To use this function, tap the icon located at the top left of the screen.

This will open a menu that displays people you have recently chatted with, messaging apps you have recently used, and several other options below. When in this menu, you can select either a specific person to send an invitation to or an app to send your invitation.

These invitations contain a link to install DoveCard and a code to exchange BizCards with the sender. You can choose to keep the standard invitation text or customize it before sending, such as adding the recipient's first name.

    6. Receiving a BizCard

When you receive a new BizCard exchange request, it will be displayed in the Exchange Requests tab of the BizCard Collection page. This tab contains all pending BizCards that are still waiting for you to accept them.

    7. Add BizCards by Scanning a QR Code During Video Calls

During a video call, DoveCard users may share their personal or group QR codes in order to exchange BizCards. This can be done by either holding the QR code up to the video camera or creating a custom backdrop.

When a QR code is displayed on the screen, DoveCard can scan the code in order to exchange BizCards with either the individual or the group it is associated with.

    8. Add BizCards by Entering a Numeric Code

All DoveCard users and custom groups come with 2 unique codes: their QR code and their numeric code. If the option to scan a QR code is not available, BizCards can be exchanged between individuals or group members by entering in the 9-digit numeric code displayed over the QR code on both the My BizCard page and a group's information page.

This numeric code can be spoken, written, or screenshotted to share with your contacts.

    9. Add BizCards by Entering a Meeting ID Code

Meeting ID exchange groups may be created by using the last 6 characters of a meeting ID code generated by a video chat or teleconference app. When you enter the 6-character code from a meeting ID exchange group into the Meeting ID Code Bar, you will automatically exchange BizCards with all members of that group.

    10. Add BizCards of Nearby Users with Bluetooth Technology

Using Bluetooth technology to add the BizCards of nearby users eases the process of exchange by seeking out business contacts for you, meaning you don't need to enter or scan a code. Instead, the feature will simply locate any other DoveCard users within your proximity and provide the opportunity to exchange BizCards with them.

To use the Bluetooth exchange, check that you have the Bluetooth feature enabled in your device's Settings menu. Navigate to the People Nearby page found at the center of the bottom navigation bar. DoveCard will automatically begin a search of the nearby area for any other users and display them on screen.

From this list, you may select individuals or all users to send a BizCard exchange request. Please note, in order to appear on your People Nearby list, both users must be using the feature at the same time.

    11. Add BizCards by Numeric Code During Face-to-Face Meetings at Social Distance

DoveCard was built with social distancing in mind as you exchange digital business cards in place of paper business cards. This means not only are you able to send and receive cards over teleconferences, video chats, and other communication apps, but also while in a local environment while maintaining a safe distance.

To exchange DoveCard digital business cards in person while maintaining social distance:

    • 1)
Open the DoveCard App and navigate to the My BizCard page
    • 2)
Locate your numeric code that is displayed above your personal QR code
    • 3)
Tell your numeric code to your business partner, and ask them to enter it into the Code Bar located on the BizCard Exchange page, then click "Add"
    • 4)
You will be presented with a menu that allows you to give their BizCard a rating and add notes. These may be used to reference the BizCard in your collection at a later date
    • 5)
If more than one other person is involved, you can also create a group and share the numeric group code with people around you

    12. How to Create BizCard Exchange Groups

In addition to one-to-one BizCard exchange, DoveCard also allows groups of up to 500 people to exchange BizCards automatically. This can be done in either of 2 types of groups:

    12.1 Custom BizCard Exchange Group

To create your own BizCard Exchange group, navigate to the Create tab on the BizCard Exchange page. Here you'll find a field to enter a custom group name and a green "Create New Group" button.

    • 1)
A pop-up will ask you to name your exchange group. Type a group name containing no more than 20 characters
    • 2)
Click the "Create New Group" button
    • 3)
You will be brought to your new group's information page, which displays the name, expiration date, group members, and both the codes (numeric and QR code) that you can share with your contacts

    12.2 Meeting ID Exchange Group

Like custom groups, a meeting ID group can host up to 500 people. However, instead of creating a group with a custom name, this function lets you create a new exchange group by entering a 6-character meeting ID* from your teleconference or video call.

    • 1)
Navigate to the Create tab on the BizCard Exchange page
    • 2)
Enter the last 6 characters of the meeting ID from your teleconference or video call, then click "Add"
    • 3)
Click the green "Create New Group" button
    • 4)
You will be brought to your new group's information page, which displays the meeting ID code, expiration date, group members, and a QR code that you can share with your contacts in addition to the meeting ID code

    * A meeting ID is the code generated by most video call and teleconference apps for online meetings. DoveCard's meeting ID group code allows you to use the last 6 characters of any such code (e.g., 222333) to create a BizCard exchange group.

    13. How to Create a DoveCard Backdrop for Zoom, Google Meet, or Microsoft Teams

Most of the popular video conferencing applications in use today allow users to create a virtual backdrop during their video calls. This has become a particularly popular feature on Zoom, but is also available on similar apps in the market such as Google Meet and Microsoft Teams.

Here, we'll walk you through how to make a DoveCard backdrop for easy BizCard exchange during your video conferences.

13.1 Part 1: Accessing Your Personal QR Code

    • 1)
Access your personal QR code or create a Group Exchange code in DoveCard
    • 2)
Screenshot the page containing your QR code. It is recommended that you crop the screenshot to surround the QR code, but this is not necessary
    • 3)
Send this image file to your computer. This can be done by email or by any messaging app

13.2 Part 2: Creating the Backdrop with Your QR Code

    • 1)
Begin by selecting an image that will serve as your primary background image (using Preview on Mac or Paint on Windows)
    • 2)
The recommended size and dimensions of backgrounds for Zoom, Google Meet, and Microsoft Teams are an aspect ratio of 16:9 and an image resolution of at least 1920x1080
    • 3)
Once this image is on screen, copy and paste your DoveCard QR code onto the image, preferably to the left or right side, so that it will not be behind you in a video chat
    • 4)
If you would like to add any custom text or instructions to the image, you may do so above or below the QR code
    • 5)
Resize the QR code as you see appropriate, then save the image file as a GIF, JPEG, or 24-bit PNG (without alpha). PNGs containing transparent areas will appear as a white background. The maximum image size is 16 MB

You now have a DoveCard backdrop that can be loaded during any upcoming video chat or conference call. Encourage all your participants to scan the QR code for a quick, simple exchange of digital business cards.

    14. How to Add Your DoveCard QR Code to Your Email Signature

Adding your DoveCard QR code to your email signature is a quick and simple way to share your digital business card in your professional correspondence. This section will guide you through the process of capturing your QR code and inserting it into your email signature.

    14.1 Gmail Users

    1) Create a QR Code Image File

First, you'll want to create an image file from your personal DoveCard QR code. This code can be found on the My BizCard page by selecting the icon on the lower left of the screen.

Use your phone's screenshot function to capture the QR code. You can choose to crop the image to include only the QR code or the area around the code that includes your numeric code as well.

After cropping the screenshot image of your QR code, you're ready to get it online.

    2) Upload Your QR Code to a Web Host

Gmail does not allow you to specifically upload images to your signature, but it does allow you to upload an image to your associated Google Drive account. If you choose not to use Google Drive, you will need a place to host your QR code image, such as a business server or the media library of your own website.

Once you select a host for your QR code, upload the image and copy the URL. Make sure that if it's hosted someplace like Google Drive, the sharing settings are set to public.

    3) Navigate to Your Email Signature Settings

Log in to your Gmail account and navigate to your Signature field. This can be done by clicking "See all settings", which can be found under the gear icon at the upper right of the screen. This will bring you to the General Settings screen.

The Signature field can be found by scrolling down on the General Settings page.

    4) Add Your QR Code to your Email Signature

Inside the Gmail Signature field, you will see an HTML editor that includes an "Insert image" option. Click this icon and you will be prompted to upload the image to your personal Google Drive or add the URL of the hosted image you wish to add to your signature.

If using an outside-hosted image, paste the URL link to your QR code here.

    5) Add, Edit, and Format Your Email Signature Text

If you don't have text in your email signature yet, you can add it here -- including items like name, job title, company, and your DoveCard numeric code. If you already have text in your signature, you can format that signature so that it best fits with your new QR code image.

The Signature field's HTML editor provides several options for text, color, size, and formatting.

    14.2 Microsoft Outlook Users

    1) Create a QR Code Image File

First, you'll want to create an image file from your personal DoveCard QR code. This code can be found on the My BizCard page by selecting the icon on the lower left of the screen.

Use your phone's screenshot function to capture the QR code. You can choose to crop the image to include only the QR code or the area around the code that includes your numeric code as well.

After cropping the screenshot image of your QR code, you're ready to get it online.

    2) Navigate to Your Email Signature Settings

Open Microsoft Outlook and click New Email. A new email window will open. At the top navigate to Signature > Edit Signatures.

Here, you can create a new signature or select an existing signature you would like to edit.

    3) Add Your QR Code to your Email Signature

Inside the Edit Signature window, there is an icon on the toolbar to insert an image. Click this icon and select the QR code image you saved earlier. It will be added to your Outlook email signature and can be resized to your preference.

Unlike other email services, Microsoft Outlook does not require you to host your image on an outside domain. Your image will appear in your emails as long as you have added it through Outlook.

    4) Add, Edit, and Format Your Email Signature Text

If you don't have text in your email signature yet, you can add it here -- including items like name, job title, company, and your DoveCard numeric code. If you already have text in your signature, you can format that signature so that it best fits with your new QR code image.

The signature field's editor provides several options for text, color, size, and formatting.
